What's New at IUEC 10
Renewal of DC Elevator Mechanics License

I spoke with the ladies at Pearson Vue yesterday.  The computer for the renewal of DC Elevator Mechanics License is in the middle of a total overhaul.  The Renewal Letters that normally go out in September, will not be going out until October.  The system is unavailable until after October 1, 2017.  That will still give everyone 60 days to renew your license.  Anyone applying for a new license can do so after October 1st.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call Tammie at the Union Hall.

Another successful drive

I would like to thank everyone who came out yesterday for the blood drive.  It was nice to see some of our Retired members here.  Billy Johnston, Pat Davis, Chip Carr, John Jenkins and his wife Maggie, all came out to donate.  Dan Cellucci and Heather Harris, from the Otis Office, joined us.  Now, if the big boss can make time in his busy schedule to donate, then those under him should be able to join him.  I will work on that for next time.  We had several amazing donors who elected to help even further by donating Power Reds.  Each of these people spent an extra 15 min on the table to donate Red Blood Cells.  These are used for those suffering with cancers and other disease who need blood treatment.  Thank you to Ryan Hicks, Mike Herrity III, Joe Mister, Heather Harris, and Ken Smith.  These donors gave enough Red Blood Cells to equal 2 donations a piece.  Even the Business Manager rolled up his sleeve for the first time.  Dave was challenged by Local #7 Business Agent, Mark Nutting to get involved.  To Daves credit, he was up for the challenge.  Thank you, Dave and Mark, for coming out to help others.

Each time I do one of these, I see more new faces.  That is AWESOME!!!  We work in a very dangerous trade and I would hate to think that if one of our Brothers or Sisters was to get hurt and need blood, they would not have it.  That is a very scary thought to me.  Please consider joining us, next time.

In our prayers

I have received the following from the International Office.

Brothers and Sisters:

It is with deep regret that we inform you that on Monday, September 18, 2017, 40 year old mechanic Simon Viel was killed in a on the job accident.  He was on a callback in Montreal Canada while working for Kone Elevator Company.  He began with the IUEC in April 1997.  Brother Viel leaves behind his mom, dad, and family.

No other details are available at this time as the investigation is ongoing.

Please keep Brother Viel and his family in your thoughts and prayers.

Please keep all of our Brothers and Sisters, in Canada, in your prayers.  This is the 3rd Brother lost over the last few months.  Please be safe.  The big goal is to return home to your families at the end of the day.

Annual Big Toy Show

It is that time of year again.  The Annual Big Toy Show will be Saturday, October 14, 2017, from 11 am to 2 pm at the Union Hall, 9600 Martin Luther King Junior Highway, Lanham, MD 20706.  We will have crabs, hotdogs, hamburgers and drinks.  Please bring a side dish to share and bring your bike, your boat, or your 68 goat.  Please contact the Hall if you plan on bringing your toys with you.

Just like in the past, we will try to have Lynyrd Skynyrd show up, if they are available.  Look forward to seeing you then.

Fraternally,

The Business Office

Words of Wisdom

One of the most important keys to Success is having the discipline to do what you know you should do, even when you don't feel like doing it!

Good things come to those that wait...greater things come to those who get off their ass and do anything to make it happen !!!
